Sky Patriot holds on in the LQHBA Futurity Consolation at Evangeline Downs

Opelousas, Louisiana –Sky Patriot ($7.20) the lukewarm favorite in the betting, held off the late challenge of Heza Jodys Toast & Call Me Red Hank to win the $91,405 LQHBA Futurity Consolation at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino on Friday evening.

The two-year-old gelded son of Game Patriot broke sharply from the outside post in the scratch depleted field of seven, and never relinquished command under jockey Orlando Baldillez. The winning margin was a nose, with Call Me Red Hank another head farther back in third. The winning time was 20.374 for the 400 yards on a track labeled fast. The speed index of 92 was a career high for Sky Patriot.

McM Dozen Dasher checked in fourth, with Kittys Fast Dash next in fifth after stumbling at the start. My King Jewel & Exonerated Cash completed the order of finish. Oh So Daunting the morning-line favorite, and Toast to Heaven were both scratched.

The victory was the third in seven career starts for Sky Patriot. He is owned by Alec Holbein and trained by Rodney Reed. He was bred in Louisiana by Charles Frazier.
