Opelousas, Louisiana –Showing the heart of a lion, Senor Seabolt ($3.40) remained undefeated as he rallied past longshot leader Key to Your Dream in the final strides to win the $114,400 Evangeline Futurity for two-year-old quarter horses at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino on Sunday evening. Although finding himself in unfamiliar territory, jockey Alfonso Lujan was able to coax the gelded son of Heza Fash Dash to his seventh win in as many starts. A front-running winner in almost all six of his previous starts, Senor Seabolt was not only forced to come from off the pace, but to rally inside of horses, and despite the difficult situation he proved equal to the task. He won by a head in 20.425 for the 400 yards and earned a speed index figure of 90 on a track labeled fast.

Key to Your Dream, a 30/1 outsider in the wagering, almost pulled off the upset under Danny Lavergne as the Tres Seis filly broke sharply and led until the final few strides. Stablemates Six Magnums & Dash to the Win were separated by only a nose while checking in 3rd & 4th respectively for owner Pete Scarmardo & trainer Janet Van Bebber. Dashin Larue was next across the finish line, followed by Hez Breakin the Bank, Romer Jackson, and Blazin Sixes. Yahoo Serious and Hemps Classic rounded out the order of finish in the ten-horse field.

Winning Jockey Alfonso Lujan stated “He was a bit sluggish on me in the early stages, but when I asked him for his best with about 150 yards remaining, he really kicked in. He’s a gutsy little guy who really loves the competition.”

Winning for the seventh time in as many starts, Senor Seabolt earned $57,200 for the win for owner/breeder Stacey Moak. Trained by Danny Eldridge, he has now bankrolled more than $329,000 and is expected to make his final start of the year at the Fairgrounds next month on Champions Day.

Racing continues on a Thursday through Sunday schedule with a post time of 6:20 p.m. each evening.
