Opelousas, Louisiana – Fastest qualifier Allyouneedislove has been installed as the lukewarm 7/2 favorite in the $63,650 Evangeline Derby for three-year-olds going 400 yards on Saturday evening at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino.

Trained by Kenneth Roberts and owned by John III, Clayton, & Dutch Jumonville, Allyouneedislove will be seeking her third straight victory and fourth in her past five starts. A daughter of Feature Mr Jess, Allyouneedislove has shown a distinct fondness for the Opelousas, La. oval with two wins in as many starts including her trial in which she traversed the 400 yards in 20.444 seconds. She drew post position two and will once again be ridden by Evangeline Downs’ leading rider, Danny Lavergne.

Jess Sin Tacha, a determined winner in the other trial, is the second choice in the ten horse field at 4/1. Trainer and co-owner Janet Van Bebber has enlisted veteran jockey Jacky Martin to pilot the gelded son of Mr Jess Perry. Also owned by Jerry Gaston, Jess Sin Tacha has shown steady improvement since returning from a six month vacation earlier this year.

Veteran stakes performers Streakin Patriot & Holland Hollywood who both disappointed in their trial, must be given serious consideration. Streakin Patriot, with more than $300,000 in lifetime earnings, the bulk of that right here at Evangeline Downs last season with a win in the $318,000 LQHBA Sales Futurity followed by a solid runner-up finish in the $448,000 LAQHBA Futurity, the richest race in the history of Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino. Streakin Patriot will be ridden by Tami Purcell, while Holland Hollywood, who finished second in last year’s Firecracker Futurity will be handled by Alvin Brossette.

Here is the field in post position order with odds for the $63,650 Evangeline Downs Derby to be run on Saturday, October 28. Carded as the ninth race on the eleven race program, the approximate post time is 9:16 central time.
