Opelousas, Louisiana – Beginning on Thursday, October 12th Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino will run nightly programs of eleven races instead of the previous ten. First post for each racing night will now be 6:20 pm central time. “Responding to the wishes and needs of the horsemen, as well as our customers and employees is our corporate mantra here at Evangeline Downs” stated Executive Director of Racing David A. Yount. Yount further added “With our daily purse structure of $120,000 one of the highest in the nation for quarter horses, not only are our stable area and training center completely full, we are receiving numerous entries daily from neighboring racing jurisdictions”. Yount also announced that Evangeline Downs has added the $75,000added Louisiana Derby for state bred three-year-olds at the distance of 350 yards to be run on closing night Saturday, November 25 to the million-dollar plus stakes calendar. Trials to determine the ten horse derby field will be contested on Saturday, November 9.

Racing continues on a Wednesday thru Saturday evening schedule with a first post of 6:20 pm central time beginning on Thursday, October 12.
