Bottle of Shine the one to beat in the $305,078 LQHBA Sales Futurity at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino

Opelousas, Louisiana –The once beaten Bottle of Shine has been installed as the 9/5 morning line favorite against nine other Louisiana bred two-year-olds in the $305,078 LQHBA Sales Futurity at 350 yards Saturday evening at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino.

Rebounding from his only career defeat, Sylvia Pittman’s Bottle of Shine unleashed a powerful late rally en route to recording the fastest qualifying time of 18.148 of the more than 125 Louisiana bred two-year-olds who contested the thirteen trials on opening night, September 20th. Trained by John Buchanan, the gelded son of First to Shine has drawn post position nine in the ten-horse field and will once again be ridden by Juan Vazquez.

Victoria Shines & Achievement Jes, both daylight winners of their respective trials, loom as the main challengers to the top pick. Victoria Shines, also sired by First to Shine, is one of only two fillies in the final after leading all the way in her trial while winning by daylight under regular jockey Tami Purcell, who will once again be aboard for trainer Ray Robbins and owner Doug Robbins. Achievement Jes, who has finished just behind Bottle of Shine after poor starts in their two prior meetings over the summer, earned his way into the rich final with a solid front running victory under Gilbert Ortiz. Trained by Heath Taylor and owned by Teddy Abrams Jr., the son of Achievement showed surprising high speed and perfect gate manners while recording his initial lifetime win.

Carded as the 9th race on Saturday’s ten-race program, the approximate post time is 9:36 pm central time.
