Madison’s Music wires ‘em in the $100,000 Matron Stakes at Evangeline Downs

Opelousas, Louisiana –Madison’s Music ($5.80) recorded her fifth win in as many starts in 2007 as she led all the way en route to a 1 length victory over defending champion Plaid in the $100,000 Matron Stakes for fillies & mares at Evangeline Downs on Saturday evening. Jockey Kirk LeBlanc was able to set an uncontested pace thru fractions of 24 3/5, 48 2/5, and 1:13 2/5 and that proved the difference as the 6-year-old Louisiana bred daughter of Prospector’s Music was able to hold off the challenges of both Delicate Dynamite and Plaid in the stretch to earn the victory. The running time for the mile on a track labeled sloppy was 1:38 1/5.

Plaid, who won this event last year, rallied determinedly after trailing for the opening half-mile but was unable to catch the winner. Delicate Dynamite, the 3/2 betting favorite in the five-horse field, briefly challenged the winner in the upper stretch before weakening late and settling for third. Dragum and Gold Power were not serious factors and finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Stormy Amber was a late scratch.

Madison’ Music, leased by Marvin Boudreaux from owner/breeder William Boudreaux earned $60,000 for the win, her tenth in 29 career starts. Trained by Keith Bourgeois, she has now earned more than $190,000 this year and more than $310,000 in her career.
