Swifty Victress proves best in the John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes Filly Division at Evangeline Downs
Opelousas, Louisiana –Swifty Victress ($5.40) recorded her second consecutive six-figure stakes win as she pulled clear from even-money favorite Iknowuthinkimsexy to win the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes Filly Division at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino on Friday evening. Despite defeating Iknowuthinkimsexy in the D. S. “Shine” Young Memorial Futurity Filly Division on Louisiana Legends Night in her last start, the public wasn’t convinced as they sent her off as the second choice in the eleven horse field. After breaking alertly from the outside post position eleven, jockey Sylvester Carmouche Jr. settled the Louisiana bred daughter of Macho Uno in contention just behind the leaders including Iknowuthinkimsexy in the opening stages before challenging Iknowuthinkimsexy approaching the quarter pole and drawing away from her in the final furlong to win by more than three lengths. Iknowuthinkimsexy, who set the early fractions of 22 3/5 & 46 4/5, was clearly second best finishing more than a half-dozen lengths clear of Sefapiano Rules and Do The Tiger who rounded out the top four. Stablemates Easy Katrina and Tibbytyme finished next, with Sweet Irene crossing the line in 7th, followed by Spainish Dancer, Zuppardo’s Pride, High Kicking Dream, and Sassy But Classy. Winning jockey Sylvester Carmouche Jr. stated “Even though she had been on the lead in her two prior wins, I was very confident at all times. She relaxed nicely for me and when I asked her to go after the favorite on the turn she accelerated. I had to switch sticks in the upper stretch as she tends to lug in but once I did that the race was over.” Owned by A. Philip Henderson and trained by Anthony Agilar, Swifty Victress earned $60,000 for the victory, her third in four career starts. Bred in Louisiana by L P Cormier, she has now earned more than $153,000. The running time was 1:07 for the 5 ? furlongs on a track labeled fast. Racing continues on a Wednesday through Saturday schedule with a post time of 6:20 p.m. Central each evening. For more information contact Evangeline Downs at 337 594-3000. |
