FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/02/07
Buster Hut looms large in the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino
Opelousas, Louisiana –Buster Hut takes on eight other two-year-olds including two-betting entries in the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes Colts & Geldings Division Saturday evening at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino. This event, one of five six-figure races scheduled for the babies, is restricted to colts & geldings that passed thru the sales ring at the 5th annual John Franks Memorial Two-year-old-in-training sale here at Evangeline Downs. Purchased at the Sale for $15,500 by Bradley Zaunbrecher & Eric Thomas, the Time Bandit colt comes off a seventh-place finish in the $131,000 D. S. “Shine” Young Futurity behind Honour Thy Lover on Louisiana Legends Night, June 30th. After recording a sharp second-place finish in his debut, a trial for the “Shine”, Buster Hut was unable to overcome a slow start from the inside post in the “Shine” final, eventually finishing some seven lengths behind the winner. Apprentice jockey Colby Hernandez, who has improved dramatically since returning from Churchill Downs late this spring, has been given the riding assignment by trainer Keith Bourgeois. Say the Scoop & Shirley’s Man, two last out winners, are expected to offer the biggest roadblocks to the favorite in this 5 π furlong affair. Say the Scoop, who is part of an entry with the Holy Bull colt Brogan’s Bull, dug in bravely to earn his diploma in his second career start on June 27th, holding on to win by a π length after setting a fast early pace under jockey Billy Patin, who will once again be aboard the Texas bred gelded son of Wild Zone for Carroll Castille’s Whispering Oaks Farm LLC and trainer Brandon Marks. Shirley’s Man, by prominent local sire Erlton, also recorded a wire-to-wire victory in his second career start. Owned by Boyd Byers and trained by Troy Young, Shirley’s Man will be ridden by Curt Bourque, the runaway leading rider at the meet. Carded as the 9th race on Saturday’s ten-race program, the approximate post time is 9:48pm central time. Here is the field in program order with odds for the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes Filly Division to be run at Evangeline Downs on Saturday, August 4, 2007.
Racing continues on a Wednesday through Saturday evening schedule with a post time of 6:20 p.m. central time. For more information contact Evangeline Downs at 337-594-3000. |
