Miss Atlantic City captures the John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes Filly Division at Evangeline Downs

Opelousas, Louisiana :: Miss Atlantic City ($11.60) rallied strongly in the stretch to win the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes Filly Division at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino on Friday evening. Racing well behind the leaders thru the opening stages, Miss Atlantic City accelerated to the front in mid-stretch then pulled clear for the victory under leading jockey Kirk Leblanc.

Princess Deelite, 2nd in last months D. S. "Shine" Young Futurity on Louisiana Legends Night, rallied strongly while racing wide in the final half of the race to finish second, almost 3 lengths behind the winner but 4 lengths clear of third place finisher Ocean Express. Mizzen to Me checked in fourth, a neck in front of the 3/2 race favorite Eccentric Girl. Others in the field included Call Me Mattie and Aerobic Dancer. Mary Lous Tribute faded to 8th after setting the early pace of 22 1/5 and 47. Scarlett Molly O, Priscillas Pet, and Quieta Saint rounded out the order of finish. Blue Grass Miracle was a late scratch.

Trained by Keith Desormeaux, Miss Atlantic City covered the 5 furlong distance in 1:06 2/5 on a track labeled fast and earned $60,000 for the win. The Kentucky bred daughter of successful stallion Stormy Atlantic out of the Carson City mare Fat City was purchased by her owner Peter Cantrell for the bargain basement price of $5,000 this past March at the John Franks Memorial Two-In-Old in Training Sale.

Racing continues on a Wednesday thru Saturday schedule with a post time of 6:40 p.m. each evening.
