Missed the Prom extends winning streak in the John Henry Stakes at Evangeline Downs

Opelousas, Louisiana –Missed the Prom ($5.00) claimed for just $8,000 last December at the Fairgrounds, recorded his fourth consecutive win and first black-type event in the $60,000 John Henry Stakes at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino on Saturday evening. Allowed to set a leisurely pace under jockey Gerard Melancon, the five-year-old Menifee gelding turned back a bid by the even-money favorite Got the Last Laugh in the upper stretch before pulling away late to a four length victory.

The running time for the mile was 1:38 1/5 on a track labeled fast.

Winning jockey Melancon stated "He went right to the lead and relaxed nicely for me, I nudged him just a little at the half-mile pole and he spurted clear so I was able to give him a little breather until Asmussen’s horse (Got the Last Laugh) ranged up approaching the top of the stretch when I set him down and he accelerated and that was the end of the story."

Got the Last Laugh easily held second, 2 1/2 lengths in front of Lee's Say So. Nakayama Kun was next in fourth, followed by Jacob V and G A and Smart Sherif. Cozy Time injured himself in the paddock and was a late scratch.

The fractions were as follows 23 4/5, 48, and 1:12 4/5.

Trained by Keith Bourgeois and owned by K. A. T. Racing Stable, Missed the Prom earned $36,000 for the win and has now bankrolled $65,400 since changing hands, which is more than eight times the price he was claimed for less than four months ago. Bred in Florida by his previous owners Red Oak Farm Inc., Missed the Prom is out of the Carson City mare Dancing Fool.

Racing continues on a Wednesday thru Saturday schedule with a post time of 6:20 p.m. each evening.
