Alba Dabas Secret captures the Hallowed Dreams Stakes at Evangeline Downs

Opelousas, Louisiana –Alba Dabas Secret ($24.40) recorded her second upset in the past two weeks as she pulled clear in the stretch to win the 3rd running of the $50,000 Hallowed Dreams Stakes for three-year-old fillies at Evangeline Downs on Saturday evening. Despite being the only stakes winner in the field, the betting public for the most part ignored her and she rewarded her backers with a second consecutive double-digit payoff. Although she broke a step slow from the outside post in the nine horse field, jockey Marlon St. Julien was able to place the West Virginia bred daughter of Madraar in contention just behind early leaders Inomuff and Speedy Diva during the opening stages before taking command approaching the quarter pole and drawing away from her rivals in the final furlong.

Coach Mike, a lightly raced daughter of Toolighttoquit, rallied strongly in the stretch under jockey CJ Woodley to finish 2nd, with Inomuff holding on for 3rd after setting or prompting the early splits of 22 and 45 4/5. Classify, the 8/5 betting favorite off a pair of allowance victories at Oaklawn Park, was never a factor and finished 4th, beaten more than seven lengths. Previously undefeated Sueno checked in fifth, followed by Miss G’s House, Speedy Diva, High’s Pride and Miss Erlton Class.

Owned and bred by Joan Reeves & Don Roberson, who also trains her, Alba Dabas Secret earned $30,000 for the victory, her fourth in eight career starts. She has now earned more than $128,700.

The running time was 1:04 3/5 for the 5 π furlongs on a track labeled fast.

Racing continues on a Wednesday through Saturday schedule with a post time of 6:20 p.m. Central each evening.
